About The Position

The Optometric Technician / Medical Assistant supports Community Health Net's Optometry Clinic by performing administrative and clinical duties under the supervision of the Medical Services Coordinator and medical providers. Responsibilities include patient registration, scheduling, EHR documentation, and assisting providers with diagnostic testing and procedures. This role is critical in ensuring efficient clinic operations and high-quality patient care.

Requirements

GED or high school diploma required.
Knowledge of and adherence to infection control protocols.
Experience working in eye care setting.
Experience working with a diverse population.
Ability to use computers and Windows based software to enter data and develop reports as needed.
Must be responsible, precise, and organized.
Knowledge of medical terminology required.

Nice To Haves

Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
1-year experience as an Optometry Technician preferred.

Responsibilities

Support medical office duties of registration, discharging, scheduling, faxing, and answering phones as needed.
Schedule appointments and complete appointment reminder calls.
Able to use and adapt to changing electronic medical records (EHR).
Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or other health information in Community Health Net's Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Complete all patient care documents in a timely manner.
Assess physical conditions of patients to aid diagnosis or treatment.
Administers injections, immunizations, and associated quality controls as directed by Community Health Net Medical Provider.
Performs testing procedures such as but not limited to; patient urine dipstick, rapid strep, fecal occult blood test, and urine pregnancy test.
Document patient information and exam information and exam findings correctly into the electronic health record system (EHR).
Immediately report abnormal testing procedure results to appropriate medical personnel.
Assist Nurses and Medical Providers with medical procedures as needed.
Dispose of biomedical waste in accordance with clinical standards.
Prepare, sterilize, and clean patient treatment rooms for use.
Clean and cover all equipment daily according to manufacture instructions.
Assists with dilating patients or using eye medications when directed to by the eye doctor.
Perform all pretesting requirements for the eye doctor. This includes but is not limited to the following tests: Visual acuity, Color vision testing, Confrontational visual fields, Extraocular movements, Pupillary reactions, Stereopsis, Assessing binocular function, Lensometry, and Autorefraction.
Perform ancillary testing when ordered by the eye doctor. This includes but is not limited to the following; Fundus Photos, Visual fields, Optical Coherence Tomography, Pachymetry, Blood pressure and Tonometry.
Involvement in running and managing flow through the Optometry Clinic.
Report all patient/safety concerns and near misses in event reporting, printing and notifying supervisor at time of report.
Update and manage refrigerator temperature logs, and maintenance logs.
Supply ordering must be approved by the Medical Services Coordinator.
Perform other duties as assigned to meet operational needs.
