About The Position

The Opto-Mechanical Engineer designs, models, analyzes, and tests optical, electro-optical, and opto-mechanical systems and components, including sensors, lasers, and fiber-optics products. Conducts research and development into phases of physical optics and geometric optics, laser characteristics, laser maintenance, and broadband optical sources. Apply research of complex optical systems to achieve desired optical outcomes. Develops component specifications, tolerances, simulations and tests procedures for electro-optical systems and components. Uses design-to-cost models, six sigma methodology, and other methods to assure and verify optical design requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or Assoc.+10 yrs; B.S.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
  • Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics background preferred
  • Expert level CAD experience (Solidworks, Solidworks PDM preferred)
  • Analytical skills, including data analysis using tools such as MATLAB and Minitab
  • Optical design (ZEMAX preferred)
  • Optical fabrication and optical metrology instrumentation, such as imaging applications, interferometers, surface profiling, etc.
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English

  • PLM experience desired but not required

Responsibilities

  • Deliver ophthalmic designs and ancillary deliverables using state-of-the-art mechanical and optical design systems and methods
  • Effective collaboration with Project Leads, functional managers to support R&D targets and project milestones
  • Collaborates with peers, internal customers and 3rd party suppliers to define design specifications and tolerances
  • Ability to advance innovative designs from research through product launch
  • Internal interaction requires interpretation of complex information; external interaction mainly requires the exchange of information
  • Apply engineering principles to the research and development of Additive manufacturing device/science/technology and/or provide engineering expertise to support development projects
