This position at the Thorlabs Ultrafast Optoelectronics (UFO) division in Ann Arbor, MI. The primary responsibility is to assemble and test opto-electronic instruments that contain precision optical, mechanical, and electronic components. This person will be a key member of our LEAN manufacturing operation and will also be responsible for activities that support the growth of a new manufacturing environment. Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to: Must be able to understand written assembly, drawings, and test instructions for a wide range of products to properly assemble products to the highest of quality standards and with minimal scrap or rework. Assemble and test optical, electrical, and mechanical components of varying sizes including micro-assembly and wirebonding. Preparing, cleaning, and inspecting of parts of assembled components and micro-assemblies. Assembles and tests precision fiber-optic components and instruments. Perform intricate soldering and de-soldering of fine, extremely small electronic components. Meets the expected assembly timelines that are outlined on the production orders Remain focused on the production orders and assembly responsibilities throughout the day Assists in inventory cycle counting as needed and notify supervisor of low stock levels. Cross-train on various functions to provide flexibility and support across production operations Provide expert support, development, and training for all soldering processes Perform quality control function at all stages of production Identify opportunities for improvement in assembly and test procedures Work to the highest of quality standards while meeting production standards. Train new employees on assembling components and testing procedures. Must maintain a safe and clean working environment through compliance with procedures, policies and regulations Additional Job Functions: include, but not limited to the following: Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures. Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

Requirements

  • 2 years experience
  • Soldering electronic parts on PCBs required fine pitch surface mount parts (SMT)
  • Intermediate level skill Microsoft programs: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experienced with inventory cycle counting
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, & enjoy following & developing processes.
  • Ability to identify electronic components & other small parts
  • Strong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing production priorities.
