About The Position

The Medical Associates Optical Department is looking for a Full-Time Non-Certified or Certified Optician to join our team! No previous experience required!   • Equivalent to a high school education.
  • Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion.
  • Must have current certification by American Board of Opticianry or be willing to obtain certification.
  • Vision - 20 / 40 or better in the best eye with or without correction.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous sales or customer service experience is a strong plus — especially if you enjoy helping people make informed decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Help patients choose frames and lenses that match their prescription and lifestyle
  • Educate patients on lens options and insurance coverage
  • Adjust and repair eyewear for comfort and precision
  • Deliver a patient experience that is professional, clear, and supportive
  • Occasionally travel to nearby clinic locations
  • Influence patients with the selecting eyewear to encourage sales.
  • Adjust eye wear to patient and make any necessary repairs using appropriate tools.
  • Instruct patient on cleaning and handling.
  • Interpret prescription and help patients choose appropriate eyewear, consulting with prescribing physicians as appropriate.
  • Supplement office staff as reception tasks permit by assisting with photocopying, computer input/typing, and enter payments/charges into computer opticianry.
  • Complete all other assigned projects and duties.
  • Greet customers in person and via telephone in polite, prompt, helpful manner.
  • Provide any necessary instructions/directions and inform appropriate department/person of persons arrival.
  • Maintain clean, orderly waiting area including beverage area and reading materials.
  • Update patient information, collect copays, provide any necessary forms needing completion, and obtain signatures as necessary.
  • Complete necessary paperwork such as encounter forms and parking validations.
  • Use computer system to generate information necessary for billing.
