About The Position

Wills Eye Hospital is hiring a n Opticia n in Philadelphia, PA . In this role, you’ll be responsible for fitting patients with eyeglasses u nder the supervision of the Director of Optical Program & Development . You’ll manage , administer , analyze and interpret prescriptions written by ophthalmologists or optometrists , will take eye measurements to insure proper lens placement in the eyeglass frame, and verif y the accuracy of the finished product while contribut ing to a positive patient experience. You’ll be successful if you enjoy working in a fast-paced clinical environment, have strong attention to detail, and value patient interaction.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; three years apprenticeship on-the-job training or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience .
  • Requires American Board of Opticianry (ABO) certification within 12 months of hire into the position .
  • Minimum 2 years related experience .

Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service through exercising knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Measures patients' bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes, using measuring devices.
  • Verifies that finished lenses are ground to specifications.
  • Prepares work orders and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.
  • Assists patients in selecting frames according to style and color, and ensure that frames are coordinated with facial and eye measurements and optical prescriptions.
  • Maintains records of patient prescriptions, work orders and payments.
  • Performs administrative duties such as tracking inventory and sales, submitting patient insurance information, and performing simple bookkeeping.
