About The Position

Description Position Summary: Designs, manufactures, and dispenses Ophthalmic products. Works well with other team members, adheres to strict confidentiality and continually utilizes excellent customer service skills. Ensures smooth operations of optical. Assists in departmental operations by filling in for other opticians as needed or requested. Position will require travel to other office locations. Education, License & Cert: New York State Optician License Required Prefer: Applied Science degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing; American Board of Opticianry Certification. Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in an optical setting as an optician apprentice or optician. Essential Functions: 1. Accurately interprets optical prescriptions (lenses and contacts) and takes all measurements for fitting of Eyewear, accurately recording information required and guides patient’s selection of appropriate eyewear. 2. Performs final inspection of eyewear to American National Standards institute specifications and delivers and adjusts eyewear according to departmental standards and protocols. 3. Performs all optical shop duties including completion of products or eyewear repairs. 4. Maintains thorough knowledge of all products and services promoted or associated to realm of expertise espoused by office. 5. Responsible for Contact lens training (insertion, removal, cleaning, etc.) and ensuring contact lens fitting fees are charged when appropriate. 6. In coordination with the Optical Supervisor, maintains up to date, market appropriate frame selection, inventory, and product offerings in accordance with established departmental budget. 7. Maintains thorough knowledge of price lists, product policies, insurance participation and requirements and encounter completion. 8. Understands and correctly applies optical pricing formulas to products. Accurately calculates and documents all required information on optical patient encounters (e.g. charges, insurance allowances and/or discounts as appropriate). Obtains necessary waivers and explains optical charges/billing as necessary to patients. 9. Responsible for the care and upkeep of optical equipment and supplies ‐ maintains a clean, well organized work area. 10. Provides telephone and personal consultation to Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Opticians, patients, and billing personnel. Other Duties: 1. Other duties as assigned by Optical Supervisor or Senior Director Practice Administration, Ophthalmology Services including training of new staff. Pay Range $$21.46 - $34.47/hour, DOE

Requirements

  • New York State Optician License Required
