About The Position

Castalia Systems is currently searching for an Optical Engineer to support one of our government customers in Chantilly, VA and the Space Domain Awareness and Space Situational Awareness mission.

Requirements

  • 6- 10 years of experience
  • BA/BS Degree
  • Demonstrated expertise in design and optical system analysis.
  • Demonstrated strong proficiency working in optics in major system development.
  • Demonstrated experience in the review, editing and enhancement of vendor documentation to support operating electro-optic systems, such as operating manuals and concepts of operations.
  • Experience operating prototype electro-optic systems; proficient at recommending systems parameters settings.
  • Experience providing test results documentation.
  • Experience supporting program development documentation such as system requirements documents, concepts of operations, interagency support agreements, operational security plans, deployment plans, and test reports.
  • Travel as necessary to vendor facilities to evaluate system checkout, perform security accreditation, and provide independent documentation to assess the performance and capabilities of vendor developed electro-optical systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience characterizing all types of optical systems.
  • Experience in the design and operation of all types of optical technologies with deep experience in collecting optical performance data from various phenomenology using a wide variety of sensor platforms is preferred.
  • Systems acquisition experience demonstrating the capability to evaluate system checkout, perform security accreditation, and provide independent documentation to assess the performance and capabilities of vendor developed electro-optical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise for design of optical system analysis.
  • Support the design and operation of all types of optical technologies and various phenomenologies using different sensor platforms.
  • Review, edit and enhance vendor documentation to support operating electro-optic systems, such as operating manuals and concepts of operations.
  • Operate prototype electro-optic systems.
  • Write results documentation including recommendations on systems parameters settings necessary to improve the performance of the system.
  • Support program development documentation such as system requirements documents, concepts of operations, interagency support agreements, operational security plans, deployment plans, and test reports.
  • Travel as necessary to vendor facilities to evaluate system checkout, perform security accreditation, and provide independent documentation to assess the performance and capabilities of vendor developed electro-optical systems.
  • Attend conferences and perform literature reviews, after which he/she will provide a written assessment of the current state-of-the-art with recommendations for future courses of action for the government.
