About The Position

The Optical Engineer Intern will be responsible for optical design and analysis of complex optical systems, primarily in military applications such as fire control, missile, and laser systems. The role involves conducting research and development in optical system concepts and applying knowledge of geometrical and physical optics to achieve desired hardware results. The intern will also support manufacturing producibility and cost-saving activities while maintaining optical prescriptions and tolerance analyses.

Requirements

• Working towards a degree in optical engineering from an accredited 4-year college or university.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.

Nice To Haves

• Familiar with lens materials and window coatings.
• Experience with optical system test and performance evaluation.
• Ability to work in multi-functional engineering teams.
• Experience with lens and optical design tools.
• Familiarity with IR missile seeker development and testing.
• Knowledge of cryo-cooled and uncooled detector technology.
• Familiarity with thermal, structural, and aerodynamic modeling and simulation.
• Experience with multi-physics tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform optical design and analysis for EO systems.
• Conduct research and development in optical system concepts and layout.
• Apply knowledge of geometrical and physical optics to hardware design.
• Initiate and support optics-related manufacturing producibility activities.
• Maintain overall system optical prescription and tolerance analyses.
