About The Position

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is the state's lead agency for environmental management and stewardship - protecting our air, water and land. The vision of DEP is to create strong community partnerships, safeguard Florida's natural resources and enhance its ecosystem. This position is responsible for visitor services and maintaining good public relations with all entering Ruth B. Kirby Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park. The candidate will be required to work independently with minimal supervision providing visitor services, cashier and revenue collection, resource management, administration, maintenance and protection of park facilities and guests. This seasonal position will be needed for 40 hours a week and is funded through September. This position does not have health insurance.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and basic program troubleshooting.
  • Skill in providing good customer service.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and reconcile reports.
  • Ability to collect fees, operate cash registers, point-of-sale systems, and credit card terminals.
  • Ability to deal with visitors in a tactful, efficient, and courteous manner.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, directives, policies, laws, and regulations.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize meeting the needs of multiple visitors at any given time.
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in operating point-of-sale systems, computers, software programs, phones, machinery, plumbing, and electrical maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting visitors at the park entrance and providing information pertaining to the park and park activities involving canoeing, kayaking, swimming, hiking, and picnicking.
  • Informing visitors of the park rules and providing directions.
  • Collecting fees for park entrance and annual passes.
  • Operating point-of-sale cash register, accurately collecting, recording, and reconciling revenue collected.
  • Completing reports and inventory, operating computers, copiers, and scanners.
  • Maintaining an organized workspace, answering phones, and operating radio equipment.
  • Explaining and interpreting natural and cultural resources of the park.
  • Attempting to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations.
  • Cleaning facilities, restrooms, grounds, parking areas, and equipment.
  • Using a chainsaw, pole saw, trimmers, mowers, and assorted hand and power tools as needed.
