About The Position

Assesses nutritional status; provides nutritional care, management and education for maternal and child health clients. Complies with the mandatory requirements in Section 215.422 F.S. and Chapter 3A-24 Florida Administrative Code regarding prompt payment process of special formula. Review medical records, determine nutritional care needs and perform WIC Program certifications. Provides individual nutritional counseling and group nutrition education for the WIC client population. Provides and coordinates nutritional care for maternity and pediatric clients who are at high nutritional risk according to the WIC Program and other criteria. Evaluates effectiveness of nutrition services and care. Perform hemoglobin/hematocrit tests according to FDOH CHD Laboratory Procedure Manual and DHM 150-24 as needed. Participates in quality assurance programs to develop and insure use of appropriate standards of nutritional care. Works with physicians and other health care professionals to insure comprehensive nutritional care is provided for clients. Covers nutrition clinic services as a staff relief worker in other agency health centers. Provides nutrition education and develops referral mechanisms for community groups and agencies whose clients are also served in the health center. Incorporates WIC Program services into community outreach services. Designs, prepares and assembles audio and visual teaching aids. Coordinates client nutrition education with other health center staff. Maintain records, client data and prepare reports. Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. This is a full-time, in-office position. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the science and application of normal and therapeutic nutrition
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writting
  • Ability to develop and implement education plans and supporting materials
  • Knowledge of the polices, philosophy and procedures of the WIC Program
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Dietetics/Nutrition or a directly nutrition related degree. FS 383.01 I.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Travel throughout Palm Beach County is required
  • This position Occasionally required to lift and/or move objects up to 25 lbs.
