About The Position

This position is established as a part-time Other Personnel Services (OPS) position and will be responsible for performing health related activities in one of the assigned schools during the current approved school term. This position will function within the scope of practice of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) as set forth in the Florida Statute NPA 464.003 and the Florida codes (rules) rule #64B9 written by the Florida Board of Nursing. Direct supervision will be provided by a Nursing Program Specialist, Registered Nurse, or the Executive Community Health Nursing Director. Maintains proper documentation and parent awareness of the need to re-supply medication.  This will include documentation of minor injuries, lice checks, communicable diseases such as colds, flu, pink eye, and allergic reactions, etc.  This position will need to triage students and care for the most critical needs first.  The LPN will be responsible for contacting parents to deliver or obtain necessary health information.  All required information must be charted in health records with accurate logs maintained.  The LPN will be responsible for monitoring the inventory of supplies and equipment and for keeping the clinic area clean and ready for use daily.  Dispenses medications to students as needed.  This position will monitor the AED’s daily for function (Green light on) and check the Emergency Boxes monthly and as indicated and will document on the Emergency Box Log.  Supplies will be replaced as needed.  Responsible for routine health screenings which include vision, hearing, height, weight, scoliosis, and blood pressure checks.  This position will chart and maintain all information for required Comprehensive School Health Report. Performs others required health duties as needed.  These may include but not limited to breathing treatments for asthmatics, treatment for elevated or low blood sugars of diabetics and care of a student having a seizure. Performs other clerical duties, including required reports, filing, maintaining confidentiality of student medical records, and answering telephone. Participates in work-site wellness and community presentations when needed.  Assists in planning Health Fairs and other School Health activities as needed. Attends mandatory staff meetings and in-service educational presentations as required.  Will work in other schools including GAP (Graduate Assistance Program) as necessary as requested by the NPS or the Executive Community Health Nursing Director.  Other duties as assigned by supervisor. This position works approximately 6.5 hours per day based upon Holmes County School District Calendar.  Position is a 10-month position and is inactive during Fall, Winter, & Spring Breaks/Holidays, other observed holidays, in-service days, and approximately 8 weeks in the summer.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of basic pharmaceutical terminology and calculations.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software and data entry.
  • Skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment.
  • Skill in calibrating liquid unit dosing equipment and dose exchange systems.
  • Skill in taking blood pressure readings.
  • Ability to interview students to obtain health information.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Ability to distribute prescribed medications.
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27.
  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Driver's License
