About The Position

Please note that this is a seasonal position, with employment running from May through July. Applicants will be contacted directly if selected for an interview. The OPS Health Educator promotes, maintains, and improves individual and/or community health and safety by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors. Conducts educational classes and/or presentations to targeted audiences related to such topics as safety and drowning prevention. Assists with class scheduling, supply, and inventory management and planning activities. Prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials. Maintains daily class records as well as personal time records. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • The ability to perform multiple swim strokes at an intermediate to advanced level, and to teach these skills to others at varying levels and ages using American Red Cross guidelines.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with people of different ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to perform water rescue skills and CPR in accordance with the American Red Cross Lifeguard training guidelines.
  • Good listening ability
  • Skills at oral and written communications
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize & organize work assignments and work independently
  • Active listening skills, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
