About The Position

OPS FORESTRY SUPERVISOR I FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES FLORIDA FOREST SERVICE OPEN COMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITY --THIS IS A FULL-TIME OTHER PERSONAL SERVICES (OPS) POSITION

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in forestry, natural resource management, or outdoor recreation and (2) two years of related experience; or
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in forestry, natural resource management, or outdoor recreation and two years of related and one year of forestry experience.
  • Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  • Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.
  • Occasional to moderate travel required.
  • Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.
  • Successful applicant must pass a background screening, including fingerprinting, as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and directs overall public recreation program at Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest and Picayune Strand State Forest.
  • Supervises recreation staff, plans and directs the management of State Forest resources, facilities, and public use under existing rules and operating policies to provide optimum levels of administration, resource management, visitor services, interpretation, protection and maintenance.
  • Personnel responsibilities include scheduling, administering supervision, discipline, training, employee performance evaluations and maintaining related documentation.
  • Ensures that assigned personnel (Career Service, OPS, and Volunteers) are trained and utilized to accomplish overall responsibilities of their positions.
  • Provides a high level of customer service, emphasizing the safety and well-being of all forest visitors.
  • Enforces all the provisions of DACS 5I-4.
  • Coordinates the issuance of Special Use permits, issuance of reservations, and special events with Recreation and Operations staff.
  • Evaluates public use recreation activities to measure site and/or vegetative deterioration and recommends plans to correct or mitigate the damage.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and construction of recreation facilities.
  • Ensures that preventive maintenance schedules and repairs are completed on all assigned motor vehicles and equipment.
  • Identifies maintenance needs for recreation facilities and coordinates repairs.
  • Prepares budget requests, provides for effective and efficient expenditure of budget funds, supervises the collection of fees and is responsible for implementing established policies for fiscal control and accountability.
  • Conducts routine audits.
  • Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with Florida Forest Service and department policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related work as assigned, which may include the handling of revenue.
