About The Position

The OPS Fish & Wildlife Technician position at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission involves assisting with the management of the Fisheating Creek Wildlife Management Area. The role focuses on habitat restoration and enhancement for wildlife, ensuring navigability of the creek, and maintaining equipment. The technician will work independently and as part of a team in a physically demanding outdoor environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid minimum Class E State of Florida driver's license.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and work outdoors under harsh conditions.
  • Knowledge of wildlife and land management practices.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and repair equipment.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to navigate using GPS units.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with chainsaw use in remote areas.
  • Knowledge of herbicide use for vegetation control.

Responsibilities

  • Clear natural debris and trash from Fisheating Creek to maintain navigability.
  • Operate and maintain area equipment including trucks, Jon boats, ATV/UTVs, and swamp buggies.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment, following manufacturer's recommendations for maintenance.
  • Assist with the operation of hunter check stations to collect biological data.
  • Participate in wildlife survey efforts and various land management activities.
  • Interact with partner agencies and the public to provide information on wildlife and area management.
  • Attend regional and divisional meetings and trainings as required.

Benefits

  • Hourly pay of $18.21, with a hire-in pay of $18.23/hour for 40 hours per week.
  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
