About The Position

This OPS Family Support Worker will represent the Florida Department of Health in DeSoto County as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor. This position is anticipated to work 40 hours per week at the rate of $15.00 per hour. This Breastfeeding Peer Counselor position counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers on breastfeeding related issues. The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor will be supervised by the Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor. The incumbent in this position will have authorized 'need to know' access to confidential WIC client records in the FL-WiSE system. This incumbent in this position must be a current or past breastfeeding mom with a minimum of 6 months successful breastfeeding experience within the last 5 years.

Requirements

• Must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a motor vehicle.
• Must have a minimum of 6 months successful breastfeeding experience within the last 5 years.
• Knowledge of basic breastfeeding practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of and ability to promote breastfeeding benefits.

Responsibilities
