About The Position
The OPS Fisheries & Wildlife Biological Scientist II (Gopher Tortoise Assistant Biologist) position is critical for gopher tortoise conservation in Florida. The role involves educating the public about gopher tortoise protections and conservation efforts, providing customer service and subject matter expertise, and ensuring compliance with state rules and guidelines. The incumbent will work closely with the Regional Gopher Tortoise Biologist and engage in fieldwork, conducting site visits and verifying gopher tortoise surveys. The position is part of the Wildlife Diversity Conservation Section of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
