About The Position

The OPS Environmental Specialist III position at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection focuses on inspecting large-scale environmental protection and enhancement projects related to Everglades Restoration. The role involves evaluating environmental impacts, ensuring compliance with regulations, and building relationships with various stakeholders. The position requires fieldwork in remote locations and contributes directly to the protection of Florida's natural resources.

Requirements

• A valid driver's license.
• A bachelor's degree or higher in one of the natural or environmental sciences from an accredited college or university or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience for a total of four years.
• Must pass Florida Stormwater Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector Training within a year and maintain certification.
• Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations including state water quality standards.
• Skill in professional use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, schedule, and conduct field inspections for the Greater Everglades Restoration Projects.
• Evaluate potential environmental impacts and effects on water quality and surrounding ecosystems.
• Provide compliance assistance during permitting, construction, and operation phases.
• Maintain a list of assigned construction projects and track project status.
• Review and process permitting and compliance requests, including turbidity control plans and water quality monitoring reports.
• Provide construction project updates in team meetings and as needed to supervisor and team members.
• Maintain a photo record of construction progress for each project.
