About The Position

The OPS Environmental Specialist III position at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection focuses on inspecting large-scale environmental protection and enhancement projects related to Everglades Restoration. Requirements

  • A valid driver's license.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in one of the natural or environmental sciences from an accredited college or university or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience for a total of four years.
  • Must pass Florida Stormwater Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector Training within a year and maintain certification.
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations including state water quality standards.
  • Skill in professional use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, schedule, and conduct field inspections for the Greater Everglades Restoration Projects.
  • Evaluate potential environmental impacts and effects on water quality and surrounding ecosystems.
  • Provide compliance assistance during permitting, construction, and operation phases.
  • Maintain a list of assigned construction projects and track project status.
  • Review and process permitting and compliance requests, including turbidity control plans and water quality monitoring reports.
  • Provide construction project updates in team meetings and as needed to supervisor and team members.
  • Maintain a photo record of construction progress for each project.
