About The Position

This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES This position will conduct environmental site inspections to assure compliance with state and local laws and rules and recommending issuance or denial or permits. This is an independent professional, and highly technical environmental position conducting plan review, issuance and/or denial of permits, and site inspection in the Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal Systems (OSTDS) Program. In addition, this county-wide position will also specialize in the Well Construction, Well Surveillance, and Healthy Beaches Programs. Duties require a thorough understanding of rules, laws, and techniques pertinent to water pollution and related environmental concerns. The incumbent serves as contact person for all issues related to all programs. Work is conducted under the general direction of an Environmental Manager. Conduct a detailed plan review of application packets for the issuance of OSTDS permits for private and commercial properties. Also providing technical consultation and support relative to OSTDS to contractors, engineers, architects and the public. Perform technical in-field site evaluations for new and existing OSTDS to determine the soil type and texture, seasonal high-water table (SHWT), and system setbacks in accordance with standards of Chapter 62-6, F.A.C. Conduct field inspection of new and repaired OSTDS for compliance with applicable standards. Inspections include use of laser leveling equipment for verification of system elevations. Conduct inspection of septage disposal services, portable toilet services and septic tank manufacturing companies for compliance with applicable standards. Within the Well Construction Program, the primary duties are permitting wells and conducting field inspections. The inspections consist of checking setbacks, GPS the well and collecting water samples to clear wells after construction. Conducts site evaluations and investigates complaints concerning well construction or water quality. Works with the South Florida Water Management District to assure that all requirements of the delegation agreement are met. Conducts surveys and sampling pertaining to the Well Surveillance Program. Collects GPS coordinates of contaminated sites and potable water wells to be forwarded to DOH Tallahassee within prescribed time frames. Maintains accurate records and prepares reports as directed pertaining to work accomplished. Sample the recreational marine water bathing beaches to insure a safe and sanitary environment. Requirements

  • Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited four (4) year college or university with a degree in environmental science, environmental health, public health or a physical biological science.
  • Previous experience in interpretation of rules, administrative codes and regulations.
  • A valid driver's license, free of major infractions and access to an automobile to be utilized for work purposes and receive reimbursement for mileage.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Florida Certified Environmental Health Professional Licensure in all areas of onsite sewage and treatment disposal systems.
  • Regulatory experience implementing 62-6 F.A.C, in Florida.
  • Experience as an Environmental Specialist.
