About The Position

The OPS Education Specialist-FYCCN position at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is designed for a self-motivated individual to serve as the Assistant Camp Director at the Ocala Conservation Center. This role focuses on delivering hands-on educational programs that engage youth in wildlife conservation and shooting sports. The position requires effective communication with stakeholders and a strong understanding of FWC's mission and goals, aiming to inspire the next generation to care about fish and wildlife resources.

Requirements

  • Experience working with youth in educational settings.
  • Professional experience or education related to summer camps, natural science, or conservation program implementation.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred).
  • Two years of relevant experience in summer camps or conservation (preferred).
  • Knowledge of FYCCN's Four Pillars: Shooting Sports, Ethical Angling, Safe Boating, and Wildlife Exploration.
  • Knowledge of hunter safety and safe gun handling practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in operational planning and public speaking.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of regional ecosystems and wildlife management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design and implementation of conservation education programs and resources relevant to FWC's Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network's (FYCCN) Four Pillars.
  • Design, conduct, and supervise educational programming including summer camp operations, hunter safety events, and fishing clinics.
  • Assist OCC Director in staff training, supervision, and skills development.
  • Conduct workshops and provide training for FYCCN partners and volunteers.
  • Promote OCC facility and programs to the public and specialty groups.
  • Ensure compliance with American Camp Association (ACA) standards for camps and educational experiences.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and summer camp families regarding various inquiries and preparations.
  • Maintain educational supplies and equipment, ensuring they are stocked and in working order.
  • Assist with program tracking and data management using Salesforce/Dynamics 365 and Microsoft Excel.
  • Attend and occasionally lead staff meetings and participate in grant writing/reporting.
