About The Position

This part-time OPS (Other Personal Services) position is responsible for providing dental services across the Dixie, Gilchrist, and Levy County Health Departments. The role is headquartered in the Levy County Health Department and is supervised by the Public Health Services Manager A-SES. Key duties include conducting dental exams, making radiographs, treating oral infections and injuries, performing extractions and restorative work, applying topical fluoride, and performing scaling and prophylaxis. The dentist will also deliver and adjust prosthetic devices, provide consultations and referrals, record services, and conduct dental screenings and educational programs in schools and the community. Responsibilities extend to coordinating with dental staff, ensuring compliance with Medicaid and OSHA guidelines, maintaining records, and attending relevant training. The incumbent is also responsible for securing confidential information and may be required to work during or beyond normal hours in emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree in Dental
  • Valid Florida Dental License
  • Ability to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English

Responsibilities

  • Provision of dental services for the Dixie, Gilchrist, and Levy County Health Departments.
  • Conducts dental exams and evaluations for oral related pathology.
  • Makes radiographs and/or intraoral photos of intraoral structures for the diagnosis of dental infection or related diseases.
  • Treats infections, diseases, injuries and malformations of the mouth and teeth.
  • Performs extractions and other related oral surgical procedures.
  • Performs dental restorative work using amalgam and composite materials.
  • Applies topical fluoride.
  • Performs occlusal analysis.
  • Performs scaling and root planing and prophylaxis procedures.
  • Mounts articulated models for lab services.
  • Delivers and adjusts prosthetic devices and appliances.
  • Provides consultation and referral as required/needed.
  • Records procedures and services rendered to clients in client record.
  • Performs dental screenings in the schools and community.
  • Provides educational programs and promotional programs related to dental health.
  • Meets and coordinates with dental staff members quarterly and as needed to review records and reports and to update staff on new policies/guidelines.
  • Ensures accurateness and completeness of dental records and billing sheets and compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with OSHA guidelines for dental program and staff.
  • Other duties as requested by supervisor and/or CHD Administrator.
  • Collaborates with the Administrator to maintain and/or update the Dental Program Policy and Procedure Manual and the Infection Control Manual and ensures compliance with DOH Dental Program Guidelines.
  • Responsible for staying current on Medicaid billing guidelines and sharing current information and updates with dental staff.
  • Maintains accurate pharmacy log.
  • Attends training and seminars to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to duties and responsibilities.
  • Responsible for ensuring EARs and/or CSRs are input and verified in the HMS system in accordance with DOH/HMS guidelines and deadlines.
  • Ensures EARs time is always in agreement with timesheet.
  • Responsible for securing the designated information sets for the purpose of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, which is stored in hard copy or electronic format.
  • May be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency (Emergency operations functions required of the incumbent include, but are not limited to, special needs shelters, Red Cross shelter, or other emergency functions).
