About The Position

Incumbent of this position performs as a licensed Dental Hygienist within the Dental Outreach and School Based Sealant Program. Duties may be performed primarily within the school calendar year with time off in the summer. Incumbent performs limited hygiene services under direction of the Health Services Manager and educates youth and community members on proper oral hygiene. Responsibilities include but is not limited to actual treatment performed on youth in a school-based setting as well as limited patients in an office setting. These services have extended to cover school aged children of Taylor, Jefferson, and Madison County School District and other community outreach facilities. This position requires a valid Florida Driver’s License. Incumbent will be scheduled to travel to schools and within the community for education and services provided on a regular basis during the school calendar year. Incumbent must maintain confidentiality and is responsible for the integrity and security of data sets under his or her control. Transport, set up and break down of portable dental equipment. Performs hygiene duties including removal of calculus deposits, accretions, and stains from exposed surfaces of teeth and from the tooth surfaces within the gingival sulcus. Perform gingival curettage and root planning as needed. Polishes clinical crowns, place sealants and fluoride treatments. Instructs patients in oral hygiene care. Informs supervisor of any concerns to ensure proper care is suggested. Charts suspected findings of the oral cavity and records procedures performed in electronic dental record, medical history, and next visit. Places and exposes digital radiographs. Promotes and conducts community outreach to educate the community and children on proper instruction and the services provided through the school district and community partners. Incumbent is responsible for proper sterilization procedures, cleaning and maintenance of dental instruments, equipment and operatories as appropriate according to state, federal guidelines. Ensures periodic testing and shocking of dental chair lines and water lines. Assists with administrative duties including collection and review of dental paperwork and records. Processes permission form and ensure proper data entry of patient information. Advises parents or legal guardian of students with dental concerns and findings with recommendations and referrals. Enters procedures and billing into HMS as instructed for service to include the date of service. Notifies supervisor of any needed supplies for inventory control. Assists with responsibilities of maintaining OSHA requirements for compliance standards, manage biohazard material, maintains OSHA records, logs and MSDS sheets. Participates in staff development programs related to job performance. Attends staff meetings and other related in-services to keep current on pertinent rules, regulations, and procedures. Completes yearly bloodborne pathogen training. Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices used to perform procedures as a Licensed Dental Hygienist
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities, including treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventative healthcare measures
  • Knowledge of dental terminology
  • Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation and grammar usage.
  • Skilled in use of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Skilled in use and cleaning of dental hygiene instruments and equipment
  • Skilled in educating others in preventative dental techniques.
  • Ability to travel to surrounding counties to provide services on a regular basis
  • Ability to manage time and communicate effectively to team members and clients
  • Ability to maintain 100% client confidentiality
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs for transport and set up of portable equipment.
  • Active Florida Dental Hygiene Licensure
  • Valid Florida Drivers' License
  • Ability to perform and maintain CPR.
  • Must be able to travel to surrounding communities on a regular basis to provide services.
  • Must be able to lift, transport and set up required equipment for services performed.
  • Daily in office or field work required.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years of experience practicing as a Licensed Hygienist
  • 1-3 years experience providing dental services to youth with special needs
  • Ability to speak basic dental terminology in Spanish
  • Experience and knowledge of testing and shocking water and evacuation lines for dental equipment.
