About The Position

This is a part-time OPS position that will serve as an OPS Epidemiologist for the Florida Department of Health.  This position will conduct disease surveillance and reporting, case investigations, outbreak investigations, implementation of control measures to interrupt disease transmission or mitigate adverse health impacts, and planned studies of important public health problems in the assigned county. Conducts notifiable disease surveillance, investigations, and reporting.  Interviews patients by telephone, or when necessary, conducts field visits for interviews.  Contacts physician offices, labs, hospitals, and clients in gathering information to complete a case report.  Provides basic information on reporting to physician office or clinics when appropriate.   Collects specimens in the field when necessary.  Educates client, family members and contacts regarding reportable diseases, disease process and transmission and control measures.  Establishes and maintains active contact with health care providers; exploring innovative methods to assure accurate and complete reporting for reportable diseases and conditions.  Assist with reportable disease outbreaks/epidemics effectively utilizing County, Regional, State and CDC resources. Codes and certifies Employee Activity Records.  Attends staff meetings, in service education programs and conferences. Completes mandatory trainings. Completes program specific reports with follow-up to supervisor.  Conducts community outreach and promotion as directed by supervisor. Performs other duties as required. Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general office procedures and practices, correct grammar usage and basic arithmetic.
  • Must have the ability to prepare reports and correspondence, follow instructions and review data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Valid driver’s license.
