About The Position

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES FLORIDA FOREST SERVICE OPEN COMPETITIVE OPPORTUNITY --THIS IS A FULL-TIME OTHER PERSONAL SERVICES (OPS) POSITION

Requirements

A high school diploma or its equivalent.
Requires possession of a valid class E driver license

Occasional to moderate travel required.
Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.
Applicant must be able to work in a forested environment with little or no assistance from others and understand the risks associated with working in natural areas, including flora, fauna and terrain.

Responsibilities

Responsible for exotic plant species identification, treatment and monitoring.
Safely handle and use herbicides to control exotic plant species.
Operate 4x4 vehicles, UTVs and small utility trailers within the forest.
Use GPS units, data logs, and paper maps to help locate exotic plant species and to navigate through the forest.
Assist with maintenance and cleaning of vehicles and equipment assigned to the job.
Assist in other forestry operations, such as timber marking, forest maintenance, plant and wildlife surveys, etc.
