About The Position

The OPS Agricultural Technician II position at the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is a full-time role focused on the detection and eradication of exotic, invasive mollusks (snails). The technician will conduct surveys in various environments, apply treatment baits, and maintain records of field activities. This position requires moderate travel and the ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Driver License.
  • Knowledge of basic computer usage on desktop and mobile devices.
  • Skill in completing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to recognize invasive, exotic snails and collect them by hand.
  • Ability to interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to maintain good communication with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
  • Ability to read and draw basic maps and locate properties using street and geographic maps.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in field operations, weather, and schedule.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs. and bend repetitively.
  • Ability to work outdoors in hot, cold, and humid environments.
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground and in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

  • Survey residential, commercial, natural, and agricultural areas for the presence of exotic, invasive mollusks (snails).
  • Apply treatment baits and remove lawn debris to eliminate possible hiding spots for snails.
  • Inspect regulated entities and maintain written or electronic records of field activities.
  • Complete specimen submission forms, time and attendance reports, and monthly vehicle reports.
  • Conduct weekly vehicle safety checks and perform other related duties as directed by management.
