About The Position

The UVA Outpatient Therapy Services team is seeking a full-time Wheelchair Seating Specialist, either an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist, to work in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department. This role involves conducting seating evaluations for complex clients and requires self-sufficiency as the lead therapist in the clinic. The position emphasizes effective direct care, professional growth, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• ATP certification or SMS certification preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy.
• 6 months relevant experience.
• Licensed to practice in Occupational Therapy in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective direct care to a variety of complex patients.
• Act as a role model and supervisor for junior staff.
• Identify patients with unmet occupational therapy needs.
• Expand clinical knowledge and skills beyond the entry level.
• Share knowledge through in-services and active participation in the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Perform occupational therapy/physical therapy evaluations according to professional standards and departmental guidelines.
• Demonstrate knowledge of intervention options and execute skilled intervention programs.
• Participate in the professional growth of self and others.
• Engage in quality improvement and program development.
• Assume a leadership role and contribute to performance appraisals.
