About The Position

As an OPO Surgical Specialist you’ll play a vital role in advancing our mission. In this position, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the surgical organ recovery are performed to optimal levels and that mandatory and job specific SOPs are followed by LifeNet Health Staff and transplant recovery surgeons to ensure quality outcomes. As a clinical services team member, the OPO Surgical Specialist participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility for the overall success of the team in achieving departmental goals. The OPO Surgical Specialist will perform their job in a manner that exemplifies the mission, attributes and values of LifeNet Health on a continuous basis. Requirements

  • Associate degree (or Two-Year Certification) – Surgical Assistant or related
  • Licensed Surgical Assistant (eligible for licensure in the State of Virginia, obtain VA licensure within 6 months of hire)
  • FIVE (5) years of surgical assistant experience
  • Knowledge of complex and diversified procedures, practices and policies and practices of a specific function
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple, competing priorities and manage time/workload.
  • Ability to perform tasks thoroughly and with care
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years First Assist experience

Responsibilities

  • Provides surgical assistance to recovery surgeon(s) and transplant coordinators including first assist role during abdominal and cardiothoracic organ recoveries.
  • Ensures all aspects of surgical organ recovery are performed without surgical errors and that mandatory and job specific procedures are followed by staff to ensure quality outcomes.
  • Works collaboratively with clinical staff to ensure proficiency of recovery staff assisting the OPO with kidney perfusion.
  • Maintains stocking and preparation of supplies necessary for self-contained organ recovery operations.
  • Provides surgical assistance for independent recovery of organs and tissues for research and medical therapy purposes.
  • Trains organ recovery staff on all anatomy.
