Requirements

  • COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant) Certification preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of prior Ophthalmology experience required
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Empathetic personality giving attention to patient's needs and concerns
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Flexibility to travel to other sites when needed
  • Computer literacy and fast learner

Responsibilities

  • Performing visual acuity screenings
  • Taking ocular measurements, both anatomical and functional
  • Perform a variety of Ophthalmic testing
  • Gathering cataract measurements
  • Administering or preparing ocular medications
  • Refractometry (measurements for the glasses prescription using the auto refractor)
  • Providing eye care and contact lens information to the patient
  • Maintaining and cleaning ophthalmic instruments
  • Assisting the ophthalmologist in basic procedures
  • Obtaining prior authorizations for in office and ambulatory surgical procedures
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Clarify pre-op and post op instructions with patients
  • Processing pharmacy requests, patient phone calls, and provider messages appropriately
  • Stocking and maintains examination rooms
  • Perform retinal photographs utilizing a Digital Retinal Camera.
  • Performs clinical skills following procedural guidelines
  • Adheres to infection control safety and OSHA guidelines
  • Stocks and maintains examination rooms, and medical supplies
