About The Position

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences at the University of Minnesota seeks a full-time, board-certified/eligible Ophthalmologist with fellowship training in glaucoma to join our dynamic, growing team. Academic rank to be determined by qualifications. The department includes over 40 faculty members across all ophthalmology subspecialties, including two other Glaucoma Ophthalmologists. The practice is based at the University of Minnesota, with potential opportunities at one or two affiliated sites in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, a metropolitan region with a population of over 3 million. The department enjoys state-of-the-art technology for imaging, laser treatments, and diagnostics and a top-ranked Clinic and Surgery Center that opened in 2016. There will be opportunities for clinical research, as well as supervising, mentoring, and teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, including curriculum development responsibilities. The successful candidate will engage in research projects and academic activities, either independently or in collaboration, with the goal of securing external research funding. Faculty development opportunities will be available to support the candidate's career goals. Additionally, the candidate will be encouraged to participate in national ophthalmology organizations and foster an academic environment for students, residents, and faculty.

Requirements

  • Completion of an Ophthalmology residency.
  • Fellowship in glaucoma ophthalmology.
  • Board eligible/certified with American Board of Ophthalmology.
  • Licensed or ability to obtain Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Licensure.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain DEA certification in the State of Minnesota.
  • Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in clinical practice and provide exceptional patient care.
  • Participate in clinical research and secure external research funding.
  • Supervise, mentor, and teach medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Develop curriculum for educational programs.
  • Participate in national ophthalmology organizations.
