About The Position

The Ophthalmology Assistant ensures an excellent customer experience while assisting the patient and the care team in an outpatient practice. This position is responsible for patient safety, assisting in minor procedures, rooming patients, and the safe operation of medical equipment. Handles and administers ophthalmic solutions according to regulatory standards and organizational policy and procedure. This position is responsible for the collection, communication and documentation of accurate patient information/data and maintaining medical records according to regulatory standards and organizational policies and procedures. Coordinates and facilitates requests for information, prescriptions and medications as directed by the provider. Addresses patient questions/concerns with information as directed by the provider. Provides scheduling support, authorization assistance, scanning or other medical practice assistance as directed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of Ophthalmology Assistant or Medical Assistant accredited training program preferred.
  • 1 year experience in a physician's office or hospital outpatient department may be accepted in lieu of degree/diploma from accredited ophthalmology or medical assistant program.
  • Medical terminology knowledge.
  • Basic knowledge of ocular disease.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records.

Nice To Haves

  • Ophthalmology Assistant experience preferred but not required.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification preferred.
