About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Ophthalmic Technician to join our dedicated ophthalmology team. The ideal candidate will assist ophthalmologists in delivering high-quality eye care by conducting diagnostic tests, assisting during procedures, and ensuring patients receive exceptional service throughout their care journey.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree preferred).
  • Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in an ophthalmology or eye care setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in ophthalmic diagnostic instruments and EMR systems.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Compassionate approach to patient care.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and infection control protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Preparation & Assessment:
  • Greet and prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
  • Collect detailed patient medical histories, including symptoms, medications, and previous treatments.
  • Measure visual acuity, pupillary response, and intraocular pressure (tonometry).
  • Perform refractometry to determine corrective lens prescriptions.
  • Diagnostic Testing:
  • Conduct advanced tests, including:
  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
  • Visual field testing
  • Fundus photography
  • Keratometry and pachymetry
  • Document and present test results for ophthalmologist review.
  • Clinical Assistance:
  • Assist during minor procedures, including injections and laser treatments.
  • Administer eye drops and medications as directed by the ophthalmologist.
  • Ensure proper sterilization and maintenance of ophthalmic instruments.
  • Patient Education:
  • Provide patients with clear instructions regarding pre- and post-operative care.
  • Answer questions about medications, treatments, and procedures with empathy and professionalism.
  • Administrative Duties:
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records using EMR systems.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments and assist with referrals when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and infection control regulations.
