About The Position

This position provides ophthalmology care; assists the physician on staff; assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care rendered to patients with urgent, emergent or potential health problems.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years Ophthalmology experience preferred
  • CPR certification.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situation
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Computer knowledge essential for Electronic Medical Records System
  • Must be able to stand for 8 to 10 hours a day
  • Requires regular walking, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting
  • Must be able to lift at least 10-15lbs
  • Must be able to manipulate objects—reaching, grasping, handling
  • Must exhibit good communication skills—understand, respond and translate into action

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians and ensure maximum efficiency; perform preliminary screening for physical review
  • Triage patients to ensure productive departmental flow.
  • Record health history of patients; updated medication list; note abnormal conditions for physician
  • Prepare patients for exams and diagnostic testing
  • Ensure patient chart entries are made accurately and in a timely manner; forward chart as appropriate
  • Contact pharmacy or optical companies to order or refill prescriptions as instructed by physician, document appropriately
  • Schedule patients for surgery and in office appointment follow up; obtain necessary precertification
  • Schedule patients to other specialist offices; obtain appropriate referral as needed
  • Maintain adequate stock levels of medication samples and supplies
  • Set up and stock exam rooms for daily use
  • Keep rooms and equipment clean between procedures
  • Follow clinic policies for infection control in handling and disposing of infectious hazardous waste material
  • Keep physician informed of patient's status
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of auto-refractor, A-scans, IOL master, visual filed, fundus photography and corneal topography
  • Return phone calls from patients in a timely manner per physician instruction, document appropriately
  • Ability to calibrate and maintain all diagnostic equipment
  • Prepare surgery packs and surgical kits, label appropriately.
  • Adhere to Quality Control Guidelines, including all reports
  • Perform other tasks as needed, in assistance of Physician ~ Must have predictable and consistent attendance
