About The Position

Ophthalmology technologists work with ophthalmologists, medical doctors who specialize in the diagnoses and treatment of eye diseases and disorders. They work in various capacities, including assisting during eye surgery, setting up and performing maintenance on equipment, and performing diagnostic testing such as measuring a patient's vision. Technologists in this career field must be familiar with ophthalmic pharmacology and understand the use of corrective lenses.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform comprehensive work ups on 3.5 patients per hour

Responsibilities

  • Collect information requested by the ophthalmologist, such as medical histories and eye measurements
  • Test a patient's eye pressure, pupil reactions, scope of vision, color vision and muscle movement
  • Take and explain procedures, treatments and diagnoses to patients
  • Assist the ophthalmologist during surgery by preparing the surgical room and equipment and observing the patient
  • Interact with patients
  • Maintain sensitive ophthalmic equipment
  • Keep exam rooms clean and in order
  • Facilitate patient care
  • Perform preliminary work-up
  • Perform Refractions, Tonometry, A-Scans/IOL Master/Immersions
