About The Position

The Ophthalmic Technician performs a variety of patient care activities to assist physician(s) and medical office personnel. This role involves obtaining patient medical, ocular, and medication history, transcribing physician's orally dictated findings into the EHR, assisting with supplies, and performing various ophthalmic tests. The technician is also responsible for reviewing and posting test and examination results into the EHR, stocking supplies, cleaning patient exam rooms and equipment, maintaining the autoclave, and ensuring patient confidentiality and compliance with safety rules. The position requires the ability to work with patients of all ages and may involve travel to other practice locations. Additionally, the technician will attend required meetings, participate in committees, and engage in professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains patient medical, ocular and medication history and transcribes results into our EHR (electronic health record).
  • Transcribes physician’s orally dictated findings during patient exam and accurately enters results in EHR.
  • Assists physician(s) by obtaining supplies needed during patient care.
  • Performs following testing: Visual acuity, Auto/manual refractions, Lensometry, Tonometry (Icare, tonopen, Goldman), Visual field testing, OCT/A-scans/B-scans/Pentacam/fundus photos, Glare testing, Color vision testing, Schirmer’s tear testing, Other testing as needed.
  • Reviews patient charts and posts tests and examination results into EHR.
  • Stocks supplies on an ongoing basis to keep current stock requirements.
  • Cleans patient exam rooms and equipment.
  • Maintains autoclave in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates compliance of safety rules and other policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with geriatric patients and patients of all ages.
  • Ability to travel to other practice locations as needed.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through meetings, education programs, seminars and conferences.
  • Performs other duties to ensure the smooth flow of work/patients in the office.
