About The Position

The Ophthalmic Technician position at UCHealth involves assisting eye care providers in delivering patient care and managing clinical activities. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT), or National Contact Lens Examiner Certification (NCLEC) if performing as a contact lens technician.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years sponsored on-the-job ophthalmic training or ophthalmic internship.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with performing patient care under the direct supervision of eye care providers.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in performing ophthalmic core competencies.
  • Perform basic ophthalmic testing procedures and diagnostic testing.
  • Administer medications and assist with tasks delegated by the eye care provider.
  • Assist with minor procedures and the prescription refill process under the direction of the provider.
  • Document patient information and enter charges accurately.
  • Educate patients about their care and procedures.
  • Assist with the flow of patient care in a clinical setting.
