The Ophthalmic Technician - Trainee position is designed for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in a retina clinic setting. Under the guidance of the Clinic Supervisor, the trainee will learn essential skills such as taking medical histories, assessing visual acuity, performing diagnostic tests, and ensuring smooth patient flow. This role is crucial in supporting the ophthalmology team and enhancing patient care.

  • Promptly and professionally assist the doctor with patient care
  • Perform technical workups, patient interviews, and special testing
  • Conduct visual acuity testing
  • Accurately perform OCT scans
  • Accurately perform advanced photography imaging
  • Accurately perform visual field testing
  • Perform various ophthalmic measurements and testing as requested by the physician
  • Follow policies and procedures to instill eye drops and administer medications
  • Perform eye irrigation according to physician's orders and written procedures
  • Communicate with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, and changes in schedule
  • Maintain and clean all equipment, reporting any issues to the supervisor
  • Return phone calls to patients and pharmacies
  • Assist in minor surgery
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Scribe as needed when the doctor requests
  • Attend required meetings
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Typing speed of 55 WPM
  • Experience in a medical or clinical setting
  • Basic knowledge of ophthalmology
