About The Position

This job provides individualized, direct patient care of assigned patients under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider. Assists in the implementation of the delivery of health care services. Assists fellow employees in providing the highest quality personalized patient care and maintains a positive work relationship with the health care team. Demonstrates the ability to provide care and service with individuals of all assigned age groups.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years experience or Associate’s degree in Ophthalmic Assisting.
• Experience with ophthalmology examinations in a high patient volume department.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree in Ophthalmic Medical Technology.
• Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) through JCAHPO.

Responsibilities

• Enables clinic operations by effectively managing the patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
• Retrieves and collates patient information for provider.
• Cleans, stocks and maintains exam rooms, procedure rooms, instruments and equipment and prepares patient for provider exam.
• Obtains near and distant visual acuity, amsler grid, worth 4dot, color vision, stereo vision, and basil tear secretion tests.
• Pulls patient's contact lens records for optometrist review.
• Cleans, disinfects and packs instruments for autoclaving.
• Documents per department guidelines, pertinent patient information in medical record.
• Ensures future appointments have been scheduled or communicated and referrals/pre-authorizations have been initiated and obtained.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and communication style.
• Other related duties as required.
