About The Position

Assists the medical staff in examining and caring for children with eye problems. performing basic eye examinations under the supervision of an ophthalmologist. Able to perform Ophthalmic Technician I job duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • 2 years of experience as an ophthalmic technician or equivalent required.
  • Current registration as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA certification) required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in pediatric ophthalmology preferred.
  • Current registration as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT certification) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic eye exams under ophthalmologist supervision, including history-taking, visual acuity testing, lensometry, tonometry, and administering eye drops.
  • Works as part of a multidisciplinary team to support patient visits and maintain efficient clinical workflow.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, well-stocked clinical environment and prepares exam rooms as needed.
  • Orders supplies and supports departmental and hospital compliance, including Joint Commission patient safety goals.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patients and families and ensures educational materials are created and available.
