MO-SSM Health Ambulatory Care Center CSM Worker Type: Regular Job Summary: Participates in the care and treatment of ophthalmic patients utilizing skills unique to ophthalmology. Demonstrates accountability to patients, peers and other health team members through positive customer relations and effective communication. Cares for children and adult patients of all ages.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
  • No experience required
  • Resuscitation Certification Requirement: Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) required within 90 day of employment. Other resuscitation certifications may be required dependent on department.
  • State of Work Location: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin
  • Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) - International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO) Or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) - Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO)

Responsibilities

  • Assists ophthalmic physicians in the exam and treatment of patients.
  • May perform testing to include lensometry, automated perimetry, basic ocular motility, keratometry, applanation tonometry, retinoscopy, and refraction refinement.
  • Assists with maintenance of clinical examination equipment.
  • Assists with minor surgery procedures and laser treatments including inventory and maintenance of surgical instruments in accordance with organization and OSHA standards.
  • Educates patients regarding ophthalmic procedures including administration of medications and pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by the ophthalmic physician.
  • Completes requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician.
  • Participates in teaching students as requested.
  • Acts as a resource to other health care providers.
  • Orders and maintains supplies for work area.
  • Assumes responsibility for self-education and re-certifications.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
