About The Position

Perform a variety of diagnostic test to the eyes to provide information to the ophthalmologist for diagnosis and treatment. Assist the ophthalmologist with diagnostic and treatment oriented procedures and administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1-3 years of full time work experience under supervision of ophthalmologic supervision
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient intake to include ocular history, medical history, medications and allergies.
  • Perform a variety of routine tests using ophthalmic instruments that provide diagnostic information including, but not limited to, intraocular pressures, basic motility, visual fields, PAM and BAT tests, A-scan USN, fundus photography, pupillary assessment and measurement.
  • Assist the physician during diagnostic and minor surgical procedures (in office), including instrumentation, sterile preparations and documentation.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic medications or diagnostic drops as required by the provider for testing or treatment.
  • Assist the ophthalmologist with patient education pertaining to prescribed treatment.
  • Coordinate scheduling of patient appointments and surgeries.
