About The Position

The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting full time opportunity for an Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OT2) in Naples, Florida. Ophthalmic Technician 2 (OT2) is proficient in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. OT2 performs appropriate clinical testing in compliance with department standards and documents in the EMR system. Ophthalmic Technician 2 performs and documents the following items in the electronic medical record. Provides support to providers which includes documentation in patient charts as required and directed for patient care. Provides patient-centric care. Adheres to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training. Complies with regulations and maintain patient confidentiality. Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control. Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned. Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness. Meets daily productivity goals. Maintains JCAHPO certifications. Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order. Participates in assigned clinical research and maintain required certifications. Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities. Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary. Works evenings and weekends as needed. Completes IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients. Facilitates motility exams. Supports Virtual Care encounters and exams. Performs imaging including but not limited to fundus photos, OCTs, and Slit Lamp exams. Assists with training and onboarding clinical support staff. Acts as a super-user for technology implementations, optimizations, and training initiatives. Acts as preceptor and trainer for imaging team members Serves as a lead technician providing oversight to clinical teams when assigned. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) required
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Works well with patients of all age groups
  • Presents with a professional appearance

  • Demonstrates outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Analyzes, organizes, prioritizes, and meets deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Prepares patients for intravitreal injections
  • Ability to function as an ophthalmic scribe
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
