About The Position

Katzen Eye Group is searching for a patient focused, experienced Ophthalmic Technician for our Lutherville, Md. office with travel to our other close in Baltimore Metro office locations. The position offers no late evenings, no major holidays or Sundays, a robust benefits package, and a team-oriented working environment where you are seen, heard, and respected. The Ophthalmic Technician will perform a range of duties including preparing the patient to see the Ophthalmologist and/or Optometrist, conducting preliminary exams, capturing medical history, and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers, and doctors
  • Basic computer literacy required
  • Highly energetic with a positive attitude
  • Must be willing to travel to other offices occasionally to meet the demands of business
  • Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours
  • Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred
  • Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred
  • One to two years' experience in multi-specialty clinic preferred

Responsibilities

  • Make introductions and establish rapport with patients
  • Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines
  • Perform pre-exam testing to include visual acuity assessment, confrontational visual field testing, assess extra ocular muscles, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, assess angles, pupillary dilation, and all other patient services as requested by the physician
  • Perform lensometry and specialized testing such as visual fields, keratometry, A/B scans, and ophthalmic photography optical coherence tomography (OCT), and optical biometry
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures or laser treatments in the office
  • Assist with fitting contact lenses and instruct patients in care and insertion of lenses
  • Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient's chart
  • Educate patients regarding administration of medications and pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by physician
  • Check temperature of medical refrigerator daily
  • Maintain and conduct inventory of medications and supplies
  • Assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment
  • Clean surgical instruments in preparation for sterile processing
  • Inspect instruments periodically for damage, send for repair, and request a replacement, as necessary
  • Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring that equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner
  • Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines
  • Prioritize building and maintaining a positive relationship with doctors and clinical colleagues
  • Execute duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
  • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned
