About The Position

Ophthalmic Technician/Surgical Coordinator Job Summary: Our Eye Techs provide quality patient care by assisting the Ophthalmologist and Optometrist in examinations and perform preliminary exams and diagnostic testing as requested by the doctor. The Eye Tech follows Madison Medical specific standards of practice, policies and procedures and supports the philosophy by incorporating them into the clinic. This position reports to the Clinic Supervisor and the Regional Director of Clinic Operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 2 + years of related experience in ophthalmology
  • Excellent interpersonal and phone skills
  • Ability to evaluate and process urgent situations and maintain composure while meeting patient needs with empathy and concern
  • Ability to work in a team environment and plan, organize and time manage daily duties

Nice To Haves

  • IJCAHPO certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to exam room as scheduled; completes medical and ocular history through appropriate documentation
  • Performs preliminary testing and enters exam findings into Epic, testing includes basic to complex diagnostic tests and visual screenings including visual acuity, refraction, lensometry, applanation, visual field, OCT, IOL master, and fundus imaging
  • Keeps up with the flow of operational needs to ensure the best and timely care for patients – manages phone calls and messages efficiently, checks EHR and email regularly, handles prior authorizations and refills, schedules appointments and effectively triages phone calls
  • Organizes and prepares exam rooms and maintains a clean, safe, and well stocked environment
  • Inventories and orders medical and pharmaceutical supplies
  • Cleans and calibrates instruments and equipment
  • Provides basic patient education
  • Orders and dispenses contact lenses
  • Performs biometry, and other testing as needed for surgical patients, provides education to surgical patients, and coordinates all aspects of surgery scheduling. Orders surgical kits.
  • Works with the Ophthalmologist to provide patient education, answers pre-op questions, ensures all pre-op testing is completed prior to surgical date.
