About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a dedicated individual to join the Ophthalmology Eye Clinic. This position involves performing complex technical assignments that require theoretical insight and interpretation, allowing for planning and modifying methods and techniques. The role includes providing basic diagnostic testing and imaging, working closely with patients and supporting physicians in their duties. The ideal candidate will gather necessary information for physicians, perform initial patient screenings, and conduct various diagnostic tests related to eye care.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year closely related clinical experience or training in optometry, ophthalmology or related field required.
  • Ocular anatomy and physiology knowledge.
  • Basic tonometry and ophthalmic equipment maintenance skills preferred.
  • Basic ocular pharmacology knowledge preferred.
  • Identifies the purpose of commonly used medications including proper administration, dosage, durations, and common side effects preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification by the registry of the Joint Commission of Allied Health in Personnel Ophthalmology, or other nationally recognized professional certifying body upon hire preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification upon hire preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers necessary information for physician, initial patient screening work up and assessment.
  • Performs certain diagnostic testing required to properly care for the patient in accordance with any eye-related problems and the sub-specialty.
  • Obtains, performs or checks for ocular history, vital signs, visual acuity, neutralize glasses, automated refractions, pupillary exams, confrontational fields, ocular motility, and intraocular pressure.
  • Performs diagnostic testing, including basic color vision screening, automated visual field testing, corneal topographies, and uses a pachymeter to measure corneal thickness.
  • Possesses basic contact lens knowledge and the ability to insert and remove contact lenses or teach a patient insertion and removal techniques.
  • Performs clinical-clerical office duties, including scheduling, request forms, printing up results, ordering contact lenses, and related administrative activities.
  • Stocks rooms according to practice needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
