About The Position

The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for an Ophthalmic Diagnostic Technologist 1 at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute - Plantation. The Ophthalmic Diagnostic Technologist 1 (H) understands the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. The Ophthalmic Diagnostic Technologist 1 (H) completes and maintains proper documentation/completion in the EMR system and performs appropriate clinical and diagnostic testing techniques in compliance with department standards CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality. Prepares exam rooms for daily clinical activities. Examines eye for abnormalities. Measures intraocular pressure of eyes. Measures axial length of eye using ultrasound equipment. Tests patient’s far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception. Documents patients’ histories and gives instructions to patients concerning eye care. Conducts a range of ophthalmic diagnostic tests, such as visual field tests, OCT scans, B-scans, fundus photography, and corneal topography. Accurately documents test results in patients’ charts. Prepares patients for each test, explaining the procedure in a clear and concise manner. Adheres to all safety protocols and infection control procedures. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT-C)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • General knowledge of office procedures and operations.
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, reports and correspondence.
