Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1-3 years Ophthalmic Assistant or Technician
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant - Joint Commission of Allied Health Professional in Opthamology
  • Ability to communicate written and oral with physicians, other clinical Associates, and patients and their families both verbally and in writing.
  • Interpersonal skills with ability to successfully interact with physicians, other Associates and patients and their families.
  • Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Knowledge of medical office practices and medical terminology.
  • High attention to detail demonstrated in clinical and contractual settings.
  • Ability to plan and schedule tasks and projects and to maintain control of own work flow by prioritizing projects.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient screening examinations.
  • Performs special testing such as lensometry, auto refraction, keratometry.
  • Performs screening and threshold visual field testing with automated perimeter and A-scan biometry for intraocular lens calulations.
  • Prepares exam rooms and position patient for procedures.
  • Interviews patients and documents ocular and medical histories.
  • Provides Orthoptic treatment.
  • Performs routine tests using ophthalmic instruments that provide diagnostic information.
  • Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, tests and procedures.
  • Maintains and cleans ophthalmic instruments.
  • Reports working condition of equipment if out of service.
  • Administers or prepares medications.
  • Assists with in-office procedures.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
