A Brief Overview Performs basic patient care, ophthalmic testing procedures and administrative task as directed by the Ophthalmologist. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

  • Performs patient screening examinations.
  • Perform preliminary exams such as, visual acuity, pupil tests, retinoscopy and refractometry, etc.
  • Provides Orthoptic treatment.
  • Prepares exam rooms and position patient for procedures.
  • Interview patients and document ocular and medical histories.
  • Performs routine tests using ophthalmic instruments that provide diagnostic information.
  • Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, tests and procedures.
  • Maintains and cleans all equipment being used.
  • Reports working condition of equipment if out of service.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree Biological Science
  • Ophthalmology 1-3 years
  • Patient care environment
  • Ability to communicate written and oral with physicians, other clinical Associates, and patients and their families both verbally and in writing.
  • Interpersonal skills with ability to successfully interact with physicians, other Associates and patients and their families.
  • Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Knowledge of medical office practices and medical terminology.
  • High attention to detail demonstrated in clinical and contractual settings.
  • Ability to plan and schedule tasks and projects and to maintain control of own work flow by prioritizing projects.
