The Ophthalmic Assistant provides a variety of preliminary ocular assessment activities and completes data forms/paperwork for clinical visits. They acquaint patients with procedures and perform various ophthalmic diagnostic tests. The assistant helps Ophthalmologists and Optometrists by obtaining medical histories, performing preliminary eye function testing, explaining information to patients regarding medications and procedures, and preparing the patient for the exam. They begin the examination with standard tests and measurements. Additionally, they perform regular instrument maintenance and automated tests, set up operating room instruments, and assist with minor surgeries.
