Ophthalmic Assistants provide vision care under the supervision of a licensed ophthalmologist and assist with taking patient histories, performing diagnostic tests and procedures, patient scheduling, and exam room preparation. A caregiver in this position works 7:00am to 4:30pm or 7:30am to 5:00pm.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one year experience in an ophthalmic setting providing direct patient care
  • Additional formal education or training in ophthalmology may substitute for some or all of the stated experience
  • Manual dexterity to operate office equipment and PC.
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds.
  • May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.
  • Visual acuity, including the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • You will be required to comply with this program, which will include obtaining an influenza vaccination on an annual basis or obtaining an approved exemption.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and prepare patients for examination or treatment.
  • Perform initial patient examinations, ophthalmic testing procedures and routine screening tests.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and procedures.
  • Document patient information in their medical record.
  • Perform clerical, stocking, maintenance and related duties.
