About The Position

The Ophthalmic Assistant I functions as a member of the healthcare team by providing basic ophthalmic, technical and clerical support to assist providers in providing for patient care, comfort, and safety. The individual will complete optometric/ophthalmic tests and measurements as ordered by the provider and will assist providers with procedures. The Ophthalmic Assistant I performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health Systems' (MCHS) mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Minimum Required: None
  • Preferred/Optional: Graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Successful completion of a medical terminology course.
  • Minimum Required: Experience in a medical field or customer service experience.
  • Preferred/Optional: Experience in Ophthalmology or Optometry.
  • Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association within three months of hire.
  • Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association at time of hire.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification awarded by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Successful completion of a medical terminology course at time of hire.
  • Experience in Ophthalmology or Optometry.

Responsibilities
