About The Position

The Ophthalmic Assistant I functions as a member of the healthcare team by providing basic ophthalmic, technical, and clerical support to assist providers in providing for patient care, comfort, and safety. The individual will complete optometric/ophthalmic tests and measurements as ordered by the provider and will assist providers with procedures. The Ophthalmic Assistant I performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health System's (MCHS) mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality. The Ophthalmic Assistant II functions as a member of the healthcare team by providing basic ophthalmic, technical, and clerical support to assist providers in providing for patient care, comfort, and safety. The individual will complete optometric/ophthalmic tests and measurements as ordered by the provider and will assist providers with procedures. The Ophthalmic Assistant II performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health System's (MCHS) mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality. The Certified Ophthalmic Technician functions as a member of the healthcare team by providing a wide range of standardized and specialized ophthalmic procedures to assist providers in providing for patient's care, comfort, and safety. The individual will document, score and record test results and present test data to the attending providers. The Certified Ophthalmic Technician performs in a manner consistent with Marshfield Clinic Health System's mission, policies, and initiatives while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Minimum Required: None for Ophthalmic Assistant I; Successful completion of a medical terminology course within six months of hire for Ophthalmic Assistant II; Three years' experience in Ophthalmology for Certified Ophthalmic Technician.
  • Preferred/Optional: Graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Experience in a medical field or customer service experience for Ophthalmic Assistant I; One year of prior Ophthalmic experience for Ophthalmic Assistant II.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association within three months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Ophthalmology or Optometry.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association at time of hire.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification awarded by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
